Young Adult Work Opportunities for Rewarding Careers (YA WORC) Program
A career readiness program, through Columbia University, for vulnerable young people, including those in foster care or with court involvement.
Internal Youth Employment Program (IYEP)
A vocational experience where youth can work in an environment where they are comfortable, to prepare them for work outside the agency.
Community Volunteering/Involvement
Our youth volunteer and are involved with many places in our community:
- Broome County Humane Society
- Hillcrest Booster Days
- Faith in Action
- CYO Baskestball
- Baseball
- FMK Karate
- Cheerleading
McConnell Supportive Youth Employment Program
The McConnell Supportive Employment Program is funded by a generous donation from Rhonda Mead McConnell and family in memory of Grant McConnell, entrepreneur and businessman, who understood the power and value of hard work. The Children’s Home is grateful to the McConnell and Mead families for their investment in our youth and our community.
- Pre-employment coaching – resume writing, interview skills, etc.
- Skill-building and support – help youth develop positive work ethics, decision-making and problem-solving skills within a supportive environment to prepare them for work
- On site check-ins and coaching (if appropriate) to ensure that the young person is carrying out their job correctly, efficiently and contributing to the success of your business
- A team of supportive adults who ensure the youth you employ is prepared to work and committed to helping your business succeed
- Reimbursement of costs associated with new hire training and the “learning curve” associated with a new employee.
Description & Expectations for Employers
- Provide 5–15 hours per week of paid employment *• Give the young person you employ an opportunity to succeed
- Be a positive role model and coach
- Expect a positive contribution from the youth you employ
* Volunteer opportunities can be created for youth under the age of 15
