Adventure Based Learning Experience (ABLE)
The ABLE program provides an educational experience that gives our students a mindful approach to staying present and in the moment, rather than looking back on past trauma or what may happen in the future. We work as a team to capitalize on their existing strengths, build leadership skills and promote positive interactions between teachers and students.
The ABLE program assists in enabling the student to develop drive, focus, and determination to achieving positive student outcomes.
Our goal is to create adventure based activities that allow for struggling students to build confidence and create a space for the student to explore and open their minds to the many opportunities that adventure has to offer.
Activities such as, hiking, geo-caching, rock climbing and kayaking will give the student opportunity for growth, to open up socially and emotionally, boost their self-esteem and to explore their emotions in a healthy way.
Equine Therapy
The Children’s Home partners with Fargnoli Farms for ongoing equine therapy for our clients.
Fargnoli Farms is a privately owned and operated facility established in 2004. They provide boarding, therapeutic riding, hippo-therapy and equine assisted learning. Their team of dedicated volunteers, certified equine professionals and therapists dedicate themselves to improving the lives of and to the growth and empowerment of the individuals we serve.
Recreation Therapy
The goal is to improve quality of life using recreation and leisure activities such as; sports, board games, card games, arts and crafts and community outings. An assessment is done on each child to see what they enjoy and where they could enhance skill improvement. These assessments are individualized, but there may be a group of youth who could develop in the same areas. Kate Bigart, Recreational Therapist, sits with the youth for their assessment and then comes up with an individualized plan for them moving forward.
